The Ford Escape is Ford’s version of a compact SUV. The Escape is Ford’s newest model vehicle to be released.

For 2001, the Ford Escape is available in four trims. The Escape is available in the XLT and the XLS, both available with 2WD or 4WD. The Escape engine for the XLT and XLS trims is a 2.0L I4 with 135 horsepower. Both trims are also available with a 200 horsepower, 3.0L, V6.

Standard equipment on all four trims includes air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo with CD, power windows, tilt steering, keyless entry and power door locks. The XLT trim offers upgrades such as cruise control, fog lights, AM/FM with CD and cassette, a folding split rear seat, cargo area cover, and 5 spoke aluminum wheels. The 4WD version of both trims come with a center locking differential and the Control Trac II auto 4WD system.

Safety features for all four trims include child safety locks, dual airbags, child seat anchors, and ABS brakes (standard on the XLT).
