A visit to Cordoba, Spain

Cordoba, Spain

So last weekend we went off on our travels again (March 2nd & 3rd 2007). This time to Cordoba which is a city in Andalucia 2.5 hours inland.

Arrival at the Hotel Tryp Gallos Cordoba

Our hotel was cheap and basic ( around 70euros per night), but we were really happy with the location. We didnt want to be right in the center as we were going to be driving a bit to see friends. Just 2 minutes from our hotel was a beautiful park area with cafes and swings and stuff for our little girl. Then just across the road was the start of the Main City Centre. Adjoining the hotel was a cafe with WiFi and was quite busy with students as the other side of the hotel was Cordoba University.

Cordoba City & Sights

A visit to Cordoba, Spain

We went to the main attraction which was La Mezquita, the mosque which is now a cathedral. Tickets to go inside were 8€uros. You buy the tickets at the kiosks opposite and then just queue up to go in. It was amazing, one of the most incredible buildings I have ever been in. I now wish I went on a guide or bought the Audio to hear more about the history. There were some amazing stories.

Almodovar del Rio

We have friends that live in Almodovar del Rio, which is about 20 minutes from Cordoba City Centre. There is also a Village to Almodovar del Rio with a castle which you can see from quite a distance and looked fab, but unfortunately we didnt have enough time to go and see it Next time I will definately go. I can see why some people like living in the Campo away from the City. We sat on their terrace just looking at some of the most amazing scenery and you feel so relaxed.
