About Alonzo Saunders

The artwork of Alonzo Saunders can be found in private collections and on the set of the television series “The Bernie Mac Show.”

Saunders uses a variety of media — acrylic, oil, pastel and fabric. His work, sensitive and spiritual, is distinctive and eclectic.

In 1995, Saunders was selected by the One Hundred Black Men of America, Inc., to receive the Man of Distinction Star Award for Arts and Entertainment. Active in community relations, he speaks to students at schools in different areas each year. His presentation is about the relationship of life and art. He conducts activities in which students are allowed to express themselves creatively.

Saunders’ painting My Beloved Son was commissioned by the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. This historic African American church is located in Norfolk, Virginia.

Known and appreciated for his fine art, Saunders’ talents also include graphic design and computer animation.
