About the game of blackjack

This very popular casino game is played by adding up cards that are dealt until they reach the desired twenty-one, “blackjack.” The game begins when the croupier deals out two cards face up to each player, while dealing himself one face up.

The object is to get as close to twenty-one as possible without going over or going “bust.” A player must beat the dealer’s hand to win the bet. Two-card combinations adding up to twenty-one on the deal are paid 3 to 2.

IPlayers request as many cards as they wish. Aces count as either 1 or 11, while face cards always count as 10 and all others are taken at face value. If a player gets twenty-one on the deal, the dealer must also reach twenty-one to “push” the bet, in which case the player neither wins nor looses. An immediate twenty-one hand is paid one and a half times the bet if the player is not pushed by the dealer.

About the game of blackjack

The dealer “hits” the players with cards until they stand, bust or reach twenty-one. However, the dealer himself must draw cards until reaching at least sixteen and must stand on seventeen. Other attractions include “insurance” bets and “doubling up on 11.”
