Gunnison is the ideal place to stay for travelers just passing through because it is located right on Highway 50, a major Colorado Highway. But Gunnison also makes a great destination. You can easily access several great fishing, hiking, and biking locations.

Winter travelers coming to ski or enjoy any of the other winter outdoor sports will find it most convenient to stay in Crested Butte.

Summer travelers will also enjoy Crested Butte for its cooler temperatures and easy access to National Forest and numerous trail systems.

If you plan to be in the area during July 4th, be in Crested Butte for the Fireman’s Pancake Breakfast and the parade that follows. It is one of the best and most popular small town parades in the U.S.A.

Almont has a limited number of lodging facilities available. During Summer and Fall, the lucky folks staying in Almont are a very short distance from the headwaters of the Gunnison River.

The Taylor River, which flows out of Colorado’s famous Collegate Peaks, and the East River, which flows out of the mountains surrounding Crested Butte, come together to form the Gunnison River right in Almont.

You guessed it. This is one of the best fishing spots in Colorado. The Taylor River is also great for rafting, kayaking, and of course, picnicing.
