Albini Family Vineyards

Located in the Chalk Hill AVA, Albini Family Vineyards is a very small producer of a limited amount of wine. Founded in 1991, they only make about 500 cases of Zinfandel and Merlot a year. Because the Albini Family’s volume is so low, they are able to pay extraordinary attention to detail throughout the grape growing and winemaking process.

All of the fruit in their low-yielding vineyard is hand-picked. This allows the winery to select only the ripest, most balanced grapes. Albini Family Vineyards’ dedication to quality does not end there. Their grapes are vinified in a hands-on, unautomated process.

These labor intensive processes include punching down the cap during fermentation followed by basket pressing. Many of these techniques have been abandoned at larger wineries.

Albini has produced several vintages that have received critical acclaim. Regarding their 1999 Zinfandel, Robert Parker stated that it was, “An outstanding effort, this dark ruby/purple-colored 1999 exhibits impeccable winemaking, a sublte touch of wood, and loads of concentrated black fruits intermixed with spice, pepper and underbrush.” Additionally, the New York Times has praised their Merlot.
