Essential gold-fish-information

The goldfish is a very popular pet, they are attractive to look at, very cheap to purchase, and relatively easy to maintain. There are the rarer varieties of goldfish and these are called fancy goldfish. They are also considerably more expensive and are often highly sought after by gold fish enthusiasts and collectors

There are several types of goldfish to choose from. These are generally categorized into three groups

Group 1 Goldfish. These are known as pond comets because they have comet-like tails that have 2 lobes, and these are arranged with one lobe above the other

Group 2 Goldfish. These are known as Fancy Goldfish. They have 2 lobes on the tail fins and these have a horizontal arrangement where there is one lobe on the right and one on the left. Fish in this group include the well known Fantail, the Black Moor and the Oranda.

Group 3 Goldfish. These are known as Very Fancy Goldfish and include the Red and White Ranchu, the Lionhead, the Bubble Eye and the Celestial. The goldfish in this category have a very limited swimming capability.

Goldfish and Swimming Capability

Group 1 goldfish are able to swim faster than those gold fish in the Groups 2 and 3 categories. These fish tend to consume most of the food and will usually nip the gold fish in Group 2 and 3.

The gold fish in the Group 2 category are able to swim considerably faster than the fish in Group 3. They also will tend to consume most of the food and will also usually nip the fish in Group 3.

This means that you have to keep goldfish from Groups 1, 2, and 3 separate and only have gold fish within each category within the same grouping. If you mix them you will end up with one attacking the other
