Bern Style Shopping

Switzerland is filled with wonderful places to wander and one of our favorites is Bern. Every visitor wants their picture taken in front of the Zeitglockenturm, the ornate astronomical calendar clock created in 1530. The clock tower served as the city’s first western gate from 1191 to 1256 and formed city’s boundary. Today it sits right in the middle of Bern’s covered shopping promenade, one of the longest in Europe. Covered shopping is great for bad weather days. Look closely and you’ll find that there are small shops under some of the covered street-level shops. Narrow steps at the street’s edge lead down to some great shopping underground.

The Old Town also has dozens of inviting restaurants, bars and cafes. Colorful markets selling fresh vegetables, flowers and meat produce are held on Bundesplatz and Münsterplatz every Tuesday and Saturday.
