Best Loved Rump Roast Recipe

This rump roast recipe is one I use all the time because a rump roast is one of our favorite cuts of beef. It’s a solid cut of meat, not overly expensive, and it can be tenderized with a marinade if need be.

A rump roast is boneless and, as its name suggests, it comes from the rump of the animal. It is generally free of gristle but can dry out when roasted because it is also relatively fat free. Using a marinade helps not only with tenderizing the meat but also helps keep it moist.

You’ll first want to marinate your roast using one of the marinade recipes below. You should marinate the roast for at least 4 to 5 hours, preferably 8 to 10 hours.

3 to 4 lb. rump roast
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. thyme
1/4 tsp. crushed rosemary

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Remove your roast from the marinade. Sprinkle with the salt, pepper, thyme and crushed rosemary. Place the roast in your roasting pan and insert a meat thermometer into the middle of the roast. Roast for about 20 minutes a pound or until the meat thermometer reaches 140 degrees for rare, or 160 degrees for medium done roast. Remove the roast from the pan and cover with foil. Let stand 10 to 15 minutes to settle the juices and make the roast easier to carve.
