  • Keep a watch out for tattoos on people you come in contact with, particularly if they are wearing a tattoo similar to the one you want to have, and ask the person who did their tattoo.
  • Visit tattoo shops on line and look at the work their artists do.
  • Visit tattoo shops in your area. You will need to have a pretty good idea of the design you want, in fact the best idea is to take a drawing of it with you.

It’s impossible for a tattoo artist to visualise what you have in your mind, no matter how well you are trying to describe your tattoo.

Tattoo artists often specialise in a certain type of design. For example, some love doing the intricate work involved in Celtic tattoos. Others prefer custom work–portraits or individual designs.
