Eberle Winery in the Paso Robles AVA

Elvis Elvis

Gary Eberle has a long history in Paso Robles. He has been making wine from Paso Robles since the early seventies and co-founded the Paso Robles AVA. This was a huge step in bringing legitimacy to an unheralded region that produces world-class wine.

The doors to Eberly Winery opened in 1973 with the release of their 1979 Cabernet Sauvignon. Eberle currently handcrafts 25,000 cases of wine from their Estate Vineyards, and has become one of the premier wineries in Paso Robles. They produce a wide variety of varietals, but their flagship wine is without question Cabernet Sauvignon.

To the enjoyment of the wine community, Eberle released their 1999 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. The age-worthy wine has complex flavors or blackberry and oak, with chocolate aromas. Although it is a little on the pricy side, it is definitely worth it. After receiving the “best of class” award at the Los Angeles Fair, Wine Enthusiast gave it 90 points.

Although Eberle’s other wines have not enjoyed the success of their Reserve Cab, they are great values for the price. Their other award winning wines include an Estate Cab, Mill Road Viognier, Roussanne, an Estate Chardonnay, Syrah Rose, Sangiovese, Paso Robles Zinfandel and an Estate Muscat Canelli.

If you want to try any of these wines, visiting their tasting room is a must. The beautiful redwood winery and tasting room is built to blend in to the surroundings, and seems as if it an extension of their vineyards. Eberle also offers a fun and exciting picnic lunch and VIP tasting tours.
