Who Makes the Best Pasta?

Pasta originated in Italy during Roman times and not in China as the rumor goes. Supposedly, Marco Polo brought the idea from China in the middle 1200′s. Historical facts don’t support this rumor. Here is a summary of dates for historical purposes.

1st Century B.C. A Roman presented the first pasta based recipe for ” laguana.”
1000 AD Organized production of pasta began in Italy in the region of Campania, Italy.
1279 First written reference in a citizen’s will in Genoa, Italy.
1295 Marco Polo brought in pasta from China.
1348-1353 Maccheroni was officially declared in Italy as a refined delicacy.

Significant commercial production of Italian pasta showed large increases in production in Italy during  the 1800′s. It was found that some areas in Italy had favorable temperature changes and the right type of climate to properly dry the pasta dough for shaping and cutting.

Eventually due to Italy’s increasing production of pasta, Italian pasta naturally became very famous as an Italian recognized specialty. At the same time, pasta became most  popular with the large multitude of Italian peasants because it was inexpensive.

They also loved their pasta and Italian foods as many parts of the world do so today.  The Italians invented their succulent and savory pasta dishes as a trademark of Italian cuisine with love and passion.

Pasta, especially spaghetti, began as a popular Italian dish in America in the early 1900′s as large numbers of Italians immigrated to United States and brought their traditions for their tasteful Italian foods with them.
