Guadeloupe festivals throughout the year

Guadeloupe loves to celebrate right throughout the year. Take the Mardi Gras carnival frenzy: magical floats, red-costumed devils and dancing filling streets of Pointe-à-Pitre – there is nothing else quite like this! On Bastille Day, you will never have a dull moment. The highlight (for me, anyhow) has to be the August: Fête des Cuisinières, or Festival of the Women Cooks.

This is one of Guadeloupe’s most colourful events. Women parade in Creole costume, carrying baskets brimming with island specialties. The day’s festivities start with morning mass at the Cathedral and 5-hour banquet (visitors are invited).
