How to prepare Ham and Sweet Potato Casserole?

1 center-cut ham steak, 1-1/2 to 2 inches thick
4 slices canned pineapple
2 large raw sweet potatoes
2 tart apples
2/3 cup pineapple juice
6 whole cloves
1/2 cup brown sugar

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

How to prepare Ham and Sweet Potato Casserole?Cut pineapple slices in half. Butter the bottom of casserole dish that will hold whole ham slice. Place halved pineapple slices in bottom of casserole; place sweet potato slices on top of pineapple; place apple slices on top of sweet potato. Cut slits in edge of ham steak so it doesn’t curl and stick cloves into edge of ham steak. Place ham in casserole on top of apple slices. Pour pineapple juice over all and sprinkle with brown sugar. Cover casserole and bake for 1 to 1-1/2 hours; remove cover during last 30 minutes of baking.

Serves 2 to 3.
