How to Build a Wardrobe?

It’s easy to learn how to build a wardrobe. It’s all a matter of color and be sure you know what color looks the best with your skin color. You are going to base your wardrobe around your “special” color. Keep your special color in mind when you begin.

The first you want to do is buy everything & anything you can think of in black. Start from head to toe. Hair accessories, scarves, turtlenecks, blouses, sweaters, blazers, cardigans, skirts, pants, gauchos, shorts, socks, pantyhose, boots, shoes, sandals etc., and don’t forget that little black dress.

Be sure to buy the items you like. Get things that make you feel comfortable and pretty. Find soft luxurious fabrics like silk or cashmere in black. Remember, you will be using these items for a long time, so this is where you splurge on the good stuff. I once bought an $800 silk jacket and used it so much, I actually wore it out, which is rare for me. It looked like a million bucks, no matter what I wore it with. Any time I wanted to look smashing, on went the jacket. It was worth every penny.

Now you are probably wondering what you’re going to do by dressing in black all the time and why did you pick out a special color? Well, wearing all black is not what you are going to do. You now need to splash your wardrobe with various items in white, ivory, and/or beiges. You don’t need as much as what you get in black, but these neutrals are also needed in your wardrobe. Still, once this is done, and before you do anything else, you can already mix and match what you have, and can probably come up with some cute ensembles already. You can wear all black, black & white, black white and beige. Put on something gold or silver with these combinations. Like I said, you already have a great start, but we’re not done yet.

You’ve totally laid the groundwork and can now start adding items in your special color. No matter what you buy now, in the way of color or print, you probably have the coordinates you need to match. Say you find a cute red top. You can wear it with all black, you can wear it with all white or you can wear it with black and white. There are very few items that won’t go with black, white, ivory or beige. And it won’t be boring because once you have these basic “good” clothing items, you can now sprinkle some wilder, trendier items throughout your wardrobe.

Throw in some stripes, plaids, florals, tie dyes…whatever your pleasure. Do you love exotic shoes? Animal prints? Crazy stockings? Any of these items will work with your basic quality clothing items.

You don’t need to splurge on the items you buy now. This is where you can get trendy accessories in trendy colors. You will be getting items that will probably go out of style next season, so don’t spend lots of money on these items.
