There are several ways to accomplish this. Here’s the way to make a Windows 98 Startup Disk.

  • Open My Computer by double-clicking the My Computer icon on the Desktop. The My Computer window will open.
  • Open Control Panel by double-clicking the Control Panel icon inside the My Computer window. The Control Panel window will open.
  • Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. This will open the Add/Remove Programs dialog box.
  • Click the Startup Disk tab.
  • Insert a blank floppy disk (or one on which you don’t mind losing the data) into the floppy disk drive.
  • Click the Create Startup Disk button. A dialog box may open telling you to insert a blank floppy disk; you’ve already done that; click OK.
  • A dialog box may open asking you to insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM; if so, you will need to put the Windows 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  • Windows will then create the Startup disk.
  • You now have a bootable Windows 98 Startup disk. (DOS boot floppy)
