Here you can see the expandable traverse curtain rod with a pair of end brackets. a slightly smaller rod slides inside the larger outer rod. Also see the control cord with tensioner.

Now you can see one of the end brackets in close up. The screw you can see in the middle allows the bracket to extend. This allows the rod to sit further out from the wall should you need it to.

Here you have the same end bracket fixed to the wall over the window. This bracket is fitted so the top is 5 inches over the top of the window. Also measured so it fixes 5 inches out past the side of the window. Repeat this for the bracket on the other side of your window.

The window with both end brackets fixed in place ready for the rod to be clipped into place. On wider traverse curtain rods you will need to fit more brackets in between the end brackets. These rods are very strong and don’t need many curtain rod brackets.

Now we have the curtain rod clipped into place on the end brackets. This style you just slide the ends on the rod up against the inside edge of the end brackets. then push to clip in place. On other models you twist to clip in place.

Also notice that the right main curtain carrier is central while the left secondary curtain carrier is to the left pretty much in the right place. We need to get both carriers into the right place and fix them in position.

In the picture above it shows the back of the secondary curtain carrier. I have used a small flat blade screwdriver to pull out some of the cord. This loosness in the cord will allow the carrier to move more easily into the right position.

To get both the curtain carriers into the righ tposition as they are in the picture above. You need to start by pulling one of the control cords and bring the master carrier with the large arm (on the right) right back to the end of the traverse curtain rod.

Now hold both the cord controls with one hand. then with your other hand push the secondary curtain carrier back to the other end of the traverse curtain rod. Loosening the cords to the back earlier will help. If it gets stuck pull the cord out a little more. Now both carriers should be sitting at opposite ends of the curtain rod with a few curtain gliders behind.

Now we have both curtain carriers in the right place. We now need to lock them in position on the cord. In the picture above you are looking at the back of the secondary curtain carrier. That is the one on the right in the main pictures when looking from the front. You can see I have pulled a little of the cord out and tucked it under the hook. This locks in into position so it does not slide a long the cord when the cotrols are operated.

You don’t have to do anything to lock the other main carrier. The cord starts and finishes on the back of the main carrier (one with the large arm on the right). The cords are tied off already locking this carrier in place.

Now if you pull one of the control cords you will be able to draw both curtain carriers together so they meet in the middle of the curtain rod. If that happens then great we are not far off being done.

Next we need the cord controls to hang down to the right length. The cords with the tensioner on need to finish behind your curtains. So if you have short curtains then you will almost certainly need to shorten these cords. The way to get them to the right length is by going to the back on the main curtain carrier. Again using a small screwdriver pull out the cord.

You will find one cord pulls out and the othe will not, the knot stays pretty much where it is. This is right don’t force the other cord. As you continue to pull the cord you will find the control cords get shorter. When at the right length stop pulling the cord out the back of the main carrier. Your control cords need to be about 8 inches shorter than you need. this is to allow for the length of the cord tentioner.

Now tie a new knot right up behind the main carrier. With this model of curtain rod you tie both ends together to lock in position. Other models of traverse curtain rod you tie a knot in the end of each cord separately. In reality you end up only having to knot the cord you pulled out as the other cord that did not move is already knotted.

DON’T I repeat DON’T cut the surplus cord off just yet. You may need to adjust it in a few moments

Next we need to attach the cord tensioner to the control cords. With this model of tensioner you simply have to lye the cord in to the top as per the picture above.

Now to lock the cord into the tensioner you push the barrel (for want of a better word) through the opening. Then push upwards to click and lock into place. The tensioner is now attached.

Now we have the tensioner free hanging ready to be fixed to the wall. It needs to be fixed so the cords are completely vertical. I get hold of the tensioner with thev wall bracket attached to the bottom. Then pull to put the control cords under a little tension but not too much. Then present the fixing bracket to the wall and mark the place with a pencil.

Now fix and screw the tensioner wall bracket into place, as in the picture above.

The cord tensioner has a spring inside to allow it to stretch a little. This keeps the control cords under a little tension all the time.

This picture above shows the tensions fitted to the cords and fixed to the wall where we want it.

That’s it all fitted and ready for you to hang your new window treatments. It may seem a little complicated at first. Once you have done it once you will do the second in half the time.
