How to Make The Caesar Salad?

For 4 people:

Caesar salad recipe

Normally this salad would be made with a raw egg to thicken the salad dressing but with current health concerns we are going to make it without. This means to get it to thicken the recipe needs to be followed correctly and in the right order.


  • Romaine lettuce washed and roughly chopped
  • 16 slices French baguette use white read if unavailable
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2-cup Parmesan shavings made with potato peeler
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 large clove garlic crushed or 1 1/2 tsp garlic paste
  • 2 good tsp Dijon or French mustard
  • 2 tsp anchovies paste or crushed anchovies
  • 2 tsp chopped capers
  • 1 tsp Worcester sauce
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper

How to Make The Caesar Salad?

Pre heat oven to 350f/180c/gas mark 4

Turn the baguette slices in a large bowl with 2 tbsp olive oil salt pepper and one clove crushed garlic and bake on a tray for 5 minutes set aside and allow to cool slightly. Meanwhile Place the mustard and lemon juice in a bowl and whisk constantly while adding the 1/4 olive oil very slowly, drop by drop until the mixture is thickened.

Carefully blend in the other crushed garlic clove anchovies paste, Worcester sauce and capers. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Turn the romaine leaves in the dressing and arrange in 4 bowls, place 4 baguette slices around the bowls and top caesar salad recipe with the Parmesan.
