How to prepare the cowboy baby shower cake?

A big thanks to Kevin from Houston, Texas for submitting this cowboy baby shower cake. She won the Grand Prize in my 3rd baby cakes contest!

This cake was created to match the “New Sheriff In Town” invitations and theme of the baby shower.

I baked two layers each in 12″, 9″ and 6″ hexagonal pans. Each layer was iced in buttercream, then covered in stone-washed-denim colored fondant. I tacked the tiers, using cake boards under each tier and bubble-tea straw dowels’ in the tier below, to hold them up.

Then I decorated with fondant jeans-pockets, fondant red bandanas, fondant baby blankets, and a couple of fondant teddy bears. I twisted white fondant into ropes, used those at the base of each tier, and painted them with silver luster dust. The sheriff’s badge at the top was crafted with gum paste, and painted with silver luster dust.
