Ice Cream Cake

Ice cream cake is a fun and easy 40th birthday cake idea. Normally they’re bought at a store like Baskin Robbins or Dairy Queen, but those cakes can be pretty generic.

They’re tasty, but unoriginal. Even if you have the cake makers write something witty on it, the cake is still blah.

Buying a pre-made cake is easy and quick, however you rarely get something original.

Make Your Own

It is actually pretty easy to make your own. By doing so you can make it any way you like, which means it’ll be original.

The first thing to do is find a cake pan that is uniquely shaped. For instance find a pan shaped like the number 40 to honour the guest of honours’ birthday.

Ice Cream Cake

Whatever shape you choose, make it fit the theme you wish to convey. Is the 40 year old a huge football fan? Find a football shaped pan.

Finding the pan is probably the hardest part of making the cake. Here’s how to make the cake:

  • Choose the flavors of ice cream you want to use
  • Decide on a cookie or candy bar you want to insert in the cake
  • Thaw the ice cream until it is runny enough to pour
  • Place wax paper in the bottom of the pan
  • Crumble up cookies of your choice and spread them evenly on the bottom
  • Pour thawed ice cream into pan; keep it even
  • When half is poured, add layer of crushed candy
  • Add second half of ice cream layer
  • Top it with crumbled cookie or candy
  • Put it back in freezer until frozen
  • If you want frosting, put frosting into microwave and heat until pourable
  • Pull out the cake and carefully flip it onto a pan. Cake should fall from pan smoothly
  • Remove wax paper and pour on the frosting

You’ve just created your own, totally unique ice cream cake.

These cakes are a great idea for any birthday. People love them and they’re easy to buy or make yourself. Since they’re meltable they’re usually the first cake to be eaten making leftovers far more unlikely.
