First things first, before the game even starts, all players will need one of the basic necessities for almost all gambling venues, Chips. Poker chips all carry a pre-determined value, for which you control the action that is going on at your table. No Chips, No Poker.

There are two scenarios in which Poker chips are slightly different in value.

-Tournament structure requires a set Buy-In Amount (Example: World Series of Poker Main Event: $10,000). In which you receive a set amount of chips in different denominations and any other person to pay the entrance fee, receives the same amount of chips as you.

-Cash Game is slightly different, opposed to buying in a certain amount for a predetermined chipcount, You have the opportunity to Buy in as much as your money the table and blind level rules allow.

When selecting a poker game, there are three denominations of the game.

-No Limit: There is no cap on your betting.

-Pot Limit: The maximum bet is the amount of the pot.

-Limit: The table has a predetermined limit bet. Usually the Big Blind.
