Directions:

    1. Begin by mixing your cake ingredients together. (You will need a double recipe or 2 cake mixes)
    2. Divide the batter into 3 equal parts to make 3 bundt cakes.
    3. Bake each cake and allow it to cool completely before decorating. (place in the refrigerator to speed the process)
    4. Cut the bottoms of the cakes somewhat flat leaving the “bundt” decorated side alone. (You will be placing the bottoms together to double the cake’s width)
    5. Then cut the cakes as shown in the diagrams below.
      • Cake 1 and 2 cut in half making 2 semi-circles from each cake.
      • Cake 3 cut in half and then cut 1/3 of each of the semi-circles making 4 pieces out of cake 3.

  1. Place the two cake 1 pieces together along the bottom that you have cut flat (use icing between the layers to act as the “glue”)
  2. Place the two cake 2 pieces together in the same way.
  3. Place the two larger cake 3 pieces (3a) together and the two smaller cake 3 pieces (3b) together.
  4. Now turning the cakes up on their edges, place the cake 1 and cake 2 groupings on a large platter so that the semi-circles make 2 humps. Place the larger cake 3 grouping as the head and the smaller cake 3 as the tail.
  5. Secure the cake pieces in place with icing or toothpicks as needed.
  6. If you desire to use different colors for decorating spots, eyes, etc., set aside some of the icing to color it later.
  7. Add enough food coloring to the larger bowl of icing to achieve the green color that you desire. NOTE: food coloring paste works better than food coloring drops and gives a bolder color.
  8. Begin icing your “monster” cake with the green icing.Make a MONSTER of a Cake.. Sea Monster Cake
  9. Use fruit ribbon along the spine of the monster and add gum drops using icing to secure in place.
  10. Make the eye with icing or a chocolate cookie (like oreo) with a dot of white icing for the pupil.
  11. Add detailing along the back using dots of colored icing
  12. Make nostrils and a smile if desired.
