My fabulous trip to Italy

The taste of lemon gelato in Florence. A walk through picturesque streets in Venice. A visit to the Colosseum in Rome. The tastes, sounds and smells of Italy are incomparable as the sights come together to form an indelible impression in one’s mind.

My fabulous trip to Italy allowed me a whirlwind tour around the country. It allowed me to get a taste of many regions of Italy in a 12-day tour which took me from the south to the north and back again.

Not to be missed highlights:

Rome: Rome is quite a large city and getting through all the tourist sights, not to mention the roads less traveled, in a few days can be quite a challenge, For those without a lot of time to spare, make sure to visit the Colosseum (a particularly beautiful sight at night), the Pantheon, the Piazza Navona, and the marvels of Vatican City museum, including Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel.

Tuscany: Visit a ‘castello’ and sample the best wines and cheeses the country has to offer. The small town of San Gimignano encapsulates the best the region has to offer.

Florence: A trip to Florence isn’t complete without a trip to the centuries old wonder, The Duomo –  a spectacular church. Visit the Uffizi gallery, shop for leather, silver, and gold and don’t forget to sample the gelato.

My fabulous trip to Italy

Lake Como: Just take it all in. Breathe in some of the most magnificent mountain and lake views you will ever see and will never forget. Take a boat ride to Bellagio and view the spectacular villas of the area along the way. (Keep your eyes peeled for George Clooney who reportedly owns a home in the region.)

Venice: Of the many beautiful piazzas in Italy, none compare to Piazza San Marco. Art, music, food, shopping (and pigeons) combine to create an unforgettable experience. A gondola ride, although touristy, is the thing to do. A haven for photographers.

Sorrento: Eat a slice of thin-crust pizza, take in the sights of Pompeii and keep your eyes open for signs of possible volcano eruptions at Mt. Vesuvio.

Capri: Take a ride up the funicular and breathe in views of sea, sky and landscape. Take a boat trip around the island and swim through the green grotto. If you have time, take a ride through the Blue Grotto. And bring lots of film.
