Phonics game teaches little kids the AT sound as in cat

1. Place the cards face down.

2. Let 1 kid pick a card.

3. If they can read, they read the card. If they cannot, then you read for them. Pronounce the consonant. For example, CAT, read C. Then read AT. Then slowly read the entire word.

4. Let the next kid pick a card.

5. Back to step 3 until all cards have been picked.

6. Play again.


Read this for the kids. Each time you say a word with the at sound, the kids are to hold up the card with that word.

A fat cat sat on a fat hat. The hat became a mat.

Let the kids tell the rest of the story.

When they are done, print and cut out the rhyme and get them to circle all the words that rhyme with cat.
