Skateboarding Tips – Learning to Heelflip

Hopefully you have a good understanding of what you need to do to make a skateboard flip. If you can a do a kickflip then you’re well on your way to learning this trick.

So, a heelflip is when you flip your skateboard with the ball of your heel. After you see it done a few times you’ll easily be able to tell the difference between them and kickflips. A kickflip would turn the board the opposite way.

Ok. Getting started with your new trick. Put your feet on your board. Your back foot will be placed like you were doing an ollie of a kickflip. I like to put my front foot right in the middle of the board. Find the object you’ll be doing your trick over and line yourself up.

Now, give yourself a few good pushes and crouch down into the flip position. Snap your tail down and slide your front foot up using your heel. Slide up and out. Aim for the curve in your board. The one where the nose of the board begins. If you’re doing it properly it will feel like you’re kicking someone in the shin with your front foot.

Keep your legs up so you can let the board flip. When you see the bolts come around catch the board. Aim for the bolts of the board. Absorb the impact. Roll away with confidence.
