Winemaker Berle “Rusty” Figgins, Jr., joined the Cave B team in June 2004. Figgins served a lengthy apprenticeship at Leonetti Cellars under his brother, Gary Figgins. On his own, he created Glen Fiona and served as winemaker of Northstar, two ultra-premium brands in Walla Walla.

Most recently, he taught at the new Center for Viticulture and Enology at Walla Walla Community College, and consulted on Black Hills Estate’s Nota Bene, an Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, wine which quickly gained cult status in Canada. His education and training includes a bachelor of applied science in viticulture and enology from Charles Sturt University in Australia, and years of cellar and vineyard work at wineries and vineyards throughout Australia, France and the Walla Walla area, according to Cave B’s website.

Some of the featured wines are:

Cave B’s 2002 Reserve Merlot (from the website tasting notes): English toffee and wild cherry comes to mind when enjoying this blend of 20 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged an additional six months in French oak barrels before bottling. This classic wine is velvety smooth and ready to enjoy.

From the same vineyards as Cave B’s highly acclaimed 2002, this graceful, elegant wine has well-integrated oak flavors and true varietal characteristics, making it a classic Semillon. Light gold in color, it is perfectly balanced with great acidity.
