The famous Andaluz Donkeys

We heard about this place where we could see and cuddle some Pure Andaluz Donkeys, which are on the verge of becoming extinct. So on Sunday morning we went for a drive. The finca is open to guests from 11am to 2pm on Sundays.

On the N340 going towards Estepona from Marbella, take the turn off at km 164 opposite Las Dunas Hotel. There are some small signs saying “ANCRAA”. Follow these signs along the dirt track, keep driving more or less straight, and you will come to some new developments that are being built. Eventually you come to a big roundabout, keep going straight over following the signs and eventually you take a left turn following the signs for “ANCRAA” and “Finca Los Pajaritos”. From when you come off the N340 this journey is about 8/9 minutes.

On arrival, you are greeted by the owners who explain all about these incredible animals. There is so much more history to the creatures than you can imagine. Having never been so close to a Donkey before or paid much attention to them, they really are worth a visit.

The famous Andaluz Donkeys

These donkeys are like no other donkey you have seen. These donkeys are a lot bigger than the ones you put your kids on at the fairs! Dressed in their traditional headgear they look amazing. There was a gorgeous dark brown baby donkey, which we absolutely fell in love with. You can touch and cuddle them as much as you want. After spending a while being introduced to a few of the Donkeys at the entrance, we were then escorted down to meet some more, much bigger males and females.

On leaving you can either make a donation, or purchase some of their donkey printed items. Its really lovely what these people are doing for these donkeys and when you come to see them you will understand. Its a part of history & Andalucia Heritage that is dying out with people like ANCRAA maybe it would have already. Anything and everything is appreciated albeit a few pence or to be a volunteer. What a lovely experience.
