The Free Card Play – An Excellent Texas Holdem Strategy

Elvis Elvis

Adding a new texas holdem strategy to your repertoire will improve your skillset and make you a better player. The free card play is a simple strategy that will allow you to cheaply draw to your big hands, and make more money in the long run!

And after all, that is what the ultimate goal is, right?

The free card play is actually very simple. However, most low limit holdem players either don’t know about it, or don’t think to use it. The fish certainly won’t know about it, and won’t know what hit them when you bust out your new texas holdem strategy.

The way this play works is by putting in a raise on the flop when you have nothing more than a draw. Your typical low limit texas holdem player will likely call the raise and then check to you on the turn, as they will slow down to your flop aggression. At this point if your draw still hasn’t come in, you can simply check it through and see a free card on the river.

Being the last to act, or at least close to the last to act is very important. This play also works better against more passive players, so be careful if playing at an aggressive table.

Here is an example of this play.

You have a flush draw and are last to act. You suspect that big blind may have a king with a weak kicker, and know that he typically slows down when raised. You now have the opportunity to a) trap all of the callers for 2 bets making you more money if your flush hits, and b) try for a free card on the turn if you miss.

You raise and everyone calls.

Hopefully this texas holdem strategy will help you take the fish for all they’re worth! Good luck, and we’ll see you at the tables!
