The simple beauty and benefit of family Altars

Altars can help bring about beneficial changes if you find, like most of us, that there are things in your life that you would like to change. Maybe it’s your powers of concentration, your health or you’d like to attract more money. Perhaps it’s your luck.

The good news is that there are simple things that can be done to realign your energies, and begin sending the message out to the Universe that you want to be happy, in every sense of the word.

When people think of altars, it brings images of fire, and dark offerings. Luckily isn’t the case at all.

The simple beauty and benefit of family Altars

An altar is any structure upon which offerings such as sacrifices and votive offerings are made for religious purposes, or some other sacred place where ceremonies take place. Altars are usually found at shrines, and they can be located in temples, churches and other places of worship ~Wikipedia

Wikipedia describes a place of worship as a house of worship. So you are halfway there – you already have the house, as humble or as grand as it may be. Who says that you have to do things the way that they’ve always been done? This is your story afterall!

Now to attract the energies to make it copacetic with what you envision.

Location is Everything

The first thing you have to decide upon is where you would like to have it placed in your home. If you are a private person, you may not want it in the main living area of your house because it will invite questions into your spirituality.
If you enjoy sharing your spiritual journey, than your living room may be the perfect place for you. Ideally it should be someplace where you feel relaxed and at ease, while still being out of the reach of children and pets. A suitable place can be anywhere from a discreet bookshelf, to a coffee table, to a closet, or cupboard. You can even create a travel altar in a tupperware container if you don’t have the space, or if you travel.

Essentially to build a sacred space, gather things that have great meaning to you, that help you to clarify yourself, keeping in mind that you want to speak to the 4 elements, which are Earth, Air, Fire and Water. For mine, I have river stones, incense, candles, and a fresh flowers. It can be anything you like, that makes you feel enlightened and happier, as long as you have the directions addressed.

Please keep in mind that an altar that is intended for spell craft is much more involved than a generalized altar for sacred space. There are additional steps involved that will be explained on a forthcoming page.

Simply put, an altar is a tool to help you create the sacred space required to focus your mind, in order to be able to focus your intent. The thing about any magickal working is that it will only ever be as effective as your intent is strong. Within the space of an effective sacred space you can expect to notice your mental chatter quiet down, and your inner critic fall silent.

This is an intimate expression of your spirituality, and as such should be respected as a such. Beyond that, it is limited only by the perception and artistry of your personal Faith.

Regardless of your personal beliefs or specific Dogma, an Altar is a place for you to be in touch with your own Intent.

“When the principles that run against your deepest convictions begin to win the day, then the battle is your calling,
and peace has become sin. You must at the price of dearest peace
lay your convictions bare before friend and enemy with all the fire of your faith.
Abraham Kuyper

The only thing to keep in mind are the main pre-requisites of building a sacred space, and making sure that it speaks to you and is comfortable. If it seems like too much of an effort and brings stress, than it’s not going to be as effective.

This is your space to just BE. When you can quiet yourself and just be still, you have the ability to commune with your higher self, ascended Masters, and your Deity.
This is the first step to taking control of your magickal spark.

Once this state of being has been experienced, you will find that it is easier to manifest changes in your life.

Much like building a fire, once you recognize and acknowledge the need for the flames, with the proper approach you’ll find that your spark can become a blaze.

It’s important to put thought and intuition into your new creation, but the most important thing to notice is that you feel a happy, and peaceful feeling when you see it. Chances are that if you look around your house, you will probably find things that have been arranged quite naturally, that could be described as a spontaneous sacred space… a cluster of candles; with a vase of flowers for instance. We all seem to have a natural inclination to worship even if we don’t realize it.

You can take it as far as you like, but even the simplest form will be a blessing to your home and family.
