Things to Remember Before, During and After Hitting the Water

Here is a list of some watersports tips:


  • Hat, Sunglasses & Sunblock
  • Stay hydrated – Drink plenty fluids
  • Check your binding screws
  • Check you fin screws
  • Bring your own equipment
  • If you are a frequent guest, share the burden
  • Put your life jacket on before jumping into water
  • Wear the correct size life jacket
  • Stretch before riding
  • Driver, Observer, Rider Communication

Things to Remember Before, During and After Hitting the Water

  • Be sure to attach the tow rope to the boat
  • Keep body part away from ropes being pulled tight
  • Make sure rope isn’t between your legs when you step into your bindings
  • Check tow rope for knots before rider is in the water
  • Don’t bunch up a tow rope around your body while in the water
  • Don’t hog the water time
  • Be supportive of other riders efforts
  • Make sure everyone on the boat is using the same hand signals
  • Boats don’t have brakes
  • Don’t smoke near the gas tank vent
  • Respect other peoples boats and equipment
  • Don’t swim near the prop
  • Things can be slippery when wet
  • Remove jewelry and sunglasses before getting in the water
  • Don’t swim or ride with cell phones
  • Be careful with things that don’t float
  • Check waterway depth maps before heading out
  • Boat drivers must meet state regulations
  • Be knowledgeable of local waterway regulations
  • Put the plug in the boat
  • Check the battery is charged
  • Put gas in the boat
  • Check the oil levels
  • Have registration & licenses, in waterproof bag
  • Have correct & enough safety equipment on board
  • Drain Engine if temps are to go below freezing
  • Make sure boat is strapped or unstrapped from the trailer
  • Have boat loaded w/supplies before getting on the ramp
  • Tie off the anchor before throwing it overboard
  • Don’t drag heavy or sharp items over vinyl
  • Use bumpers when tied to anything
  • Pull the plugs when not in the water
  • Secure Towers or pylons before use
  • Secure boat contents before pulling away
  • Check clearances before pulling in to lifts or garages
