Time Saving Master Mix Recipes For Your Homemade Goodies

When time is limited, having a master mix stored away can be a real time saver. Make your own, save money and serve easy baked goods that taste homemade because they are.

Master Mix Recipe #1

  • 9 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup nonfat dry milk

Sift together all dry ingredients at least three times or until throughly blended. Cut in the shortening with a pastry cutter until mixture resembles course meal. Store in a tightly covered container at room temperature.

Master Mix Recipe #2

  • 5 lbs.flour
  • 3/4 cup baking powder
  • 2 Tbsp. cream of tartar
  • 2 lbs. vegetable shortening
  • 2 1/4 cup dry milk solids
  • 3 Tbsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Sift the dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening until it resembles corn meal. Store at room temperature in large tightly covered container.

Time Saving Master Mix Recipes For Your Homemade Goodies

Biscuits From Master Mix

  • 3 cups Master Mix
  • 3/4 cup water (or milk)

Stir together about 25 strokes. On a floured surface knead several times. Place on baking sheet and bake at 425 degrees F. for 12 to 15 minutes. Grated cheese can be added before kneading if desired. Remove from oven and brush with melted garlic butter. Makes 12 – 15 biscuits.

Muffins From Master Mix

  • 3 cups Master Mix
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup water(or milk)

Add sugar to mix. Mix together milk and egg and add to dry ingredients. Stir until moistened. In greased muffin tins, bake at 425 degrees F. for approximatly 20 minutes. Can add for added flavor: blueberries or chopped dates, raisins or dried cranberries or chopped nuts before pouring into muffin tins. Yields 12 muffins.

Pancakes or Waffles From Master Mix

  • 3 cups Master Mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cup water (or milk)

Mix together and pour on hot griddle or waffle iron. Makes about 18 pancakes or 6 waffles

Cornbread From Master Mix

  • 1 1/2 Cups Master Mix
  • 3/4 Cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 cup water

Mix all ingredients together and pour into a greased square baking dish or cornstick pans. Bake at 450 degrees F. for 25 minutes.

Hot Chocolate Master Mix

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 cup powdered coffee creamer
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 5 1/3 cups nonfat dry milk

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Can add two cups miniature marshmallows if desired. To mix cold add 1/3 cup Master Mix to 8 oz. cold milk. For hot chocolate add use 1/3 cup to hot water or milk. Add 1/3 cup to coffee for “Cafe Mocha.”
