Top 10 Nature Sites In Puerto Rico – Yunque Rainforest

El Yunque Rainforest is truly a site to see from up close and very personal, an experience not likely to be forgotten as you’re swept away by feelings of awe and wonder. Its 28,000 acres of wild verdant life and rare exotic colors are blanketed by the thick canopy of over 240 different tree species.

As the only rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System, more than 100 billion gallons of annual rainfall account for the unusual tropical combination of sparkling leaves, glittery rocks and shadowy paths pierced by sunlight. Streams and waterfalls whisper softly from afar and beckon bathers who tread near its banks and pristine pools.

Whether on foot or by car, El Yunque proffers stunning vistas of rolling hills, misty mountaintops and a low, dense skyline. No less than an entire day will suffice to catch merely a glimpse of this vast natural treasure-trove.

Be sure to begin your visit with the El Portal Rain Forest Center, a unique structure that was specifically designed to blend into the surrounding foliage and environment. The rainforest is a grand destination for all kinds and degrees of adventure, from peaceful strolls along its clearly designated trails to genuine hikes that will surely take your breath away.
