This dog is sturdy, shortlegged and has a long body in proportion to its height. It has pointed ears and small dark eyes.The outer coat is harsh, straight and 6 cm/2,5 in long and the undercoat is short and soft.


The australian terrier is very energetic when outside and calmer in the house.

It has loads of personality and is a quick learner.

It is neither aggressive nor a coward. Not excessively talkative, but will bark if a stranger enters their territory. Has a loud and sharp voice.

Sheds little to no hair at all. They need regular brushing, at least once a week.

Keep the hairs between the eyes, on ears and tail short by plucking or clipping. For show coat it needs more plucking.

Too much bathing will make the coat softer.


Was developed in Australia in the 19th century and is believed to be a mix of many small terriers.

In Australia it was used for rodent and snake control, as a watchdog, and allround farmdog. This means they still have a very high hunting instinct, and will hunt small animals if they get the chance.

They also have some herding instincts and cooperate well.

‘Aussies’ are capable of adapting to farm and citylife. They can stand both cold and warm weather.
