Breed Characteristics: The Jack Russell Terrier is an absolutely lovable dog with a wonderful spirit and a great energy about them. It is hard not to fall in love with this breed from the time they are puppies and you see them wrestling around as littermates. Keep in mind that this cute puppy energy will remain for a good portion of their adult life, so they are best suited for families who plan to provide them with regular exercise and play time. Otherwise, because they have a tendency to be hyperactive, they may start to take over the household. They will do best with an owner who knows how to train dogs or has at least had experience with dogs in the past. Once trained, they are a joy to watch in action, constantly on the go. They love to play with kids and can entertain the entire family by jumping up to five feet off the ground.Their jumping abilities are remarkable because they only average 10-12 inches off the ground and usually only weigh 13-18 pounds. These energetic little dogs have short or wired hair that is at least fifty percent white, sometimes almost totally white, but often mixed with red, black or tan. This breed has short legs and a medium length body with a small chest and a small, docked tail that sticks out straight from the body and is constantly in motion, especially when they are on the prowl. Another signature feature of the Jack Russell are the cute ears that perk up slightly and then fold forward on top of the head.
