Breed Characteristics: A smaller version of the Standard Poodle, the Miniature Poodle has a very similar personality as the Standard and the Toy. They are also judged the same by show standards. The breed has a tendency to be a bit sensitive, and may even be considered high-strung or nervous, especially around strangers. This may hold true for training as well, so it is best to be gentle and guiding rather than harsh with discipline. Remember they are very intelligent dogs, so it should not take much to teach them commands or obedience. Miniature Poodles enjoy the company of their owners, are extremely loyal and although they enjoy a good walk, jog or swim, they are most satisfied just being where their human family is.

The average size of a Miniature Poodle is between 12-14 inches tall, weighing around 14-18 pounds. The adorable curly coat is available in a variety of different colors, although the majority of Poodles are white, gray or black. They are lean and lanky but well-proportioned, with a long and lean muzzle. They almost always have a black nose and black, oval shaped eyes with a perky demeanor that adds to the beauty of their presence. Keep in mind that while their curly coat is beautiful, they will definitely need added grooming and maintenance time, with regular brushing and a cut every 6-8 weeks to keep them looking beautiful.
