Breed Characteristics: A sleek, muscular large breed dog with a very short, coarse silvery gray coat, the Weimaraner has the appearance of a runner or an athlete. The neck and chest are very long and graceful in appearance, as is the muzzle, which is long and thin, surrounded by large ears that flop and hang down around the face. The breed sports a quirky, almost half tail, that sticks up straight away from the body, and will surely be wagging almost all day long. The average Weimaraner weighs between 55-70 pounds and stands tall and long at 24-27 inches off the ground. This breed is known for their abundance of energy. Coupled with a strong willed, stubborn personality, they work best in a family that plans to exercise them frequently and train them properly, using the best of their abilities to counteract any negative behavior. Once trained properly they make excellent family pets because of their loyalty, as well as their friendliness and patience towards humans. Some Weimaraners do okay with other pets, but will need to be socialized so cats and birds are not considered prey.
