Elvis Elvis

Magnetic Island lays claim to being an island like no other in Australia’s tropical north

Magnetic Island’s uniqueness comes from the fact that it blends untouched National Park with a resident population of about 2500 and a variety of resorts.

Situated only 8kms, (5 miles) out from Townsville, it’s just a short 20min ferryboat ride to Magnetic Island.

With an average of 320 days of sunshine per year, the chances are the weather will be perfect for your Great Barrier Reef getaway.

With 24kms of walking trails and more than half the island a National Park, you wont have to go far for your bushwalking experience. There’s also many secluded beaches.

The highest part of the island Mt.Cook is 407 metres high. You’re likely to come across a variety of ‘locals’ which includes, koalas, possums, wallabies and of course the huge amount of birdlife that calls this piece of paradise their home.

Why you should visit the Magnetic Island, Australia?

Accommodation on the island, (there’s approx 39 different holiday accommodation properties) ranges from budget to luxury, catering for all tastes, there’s bound to be something to suit you. And being a fairly well populated island there is also a very large range of busineses offering a wide range of services suitable to a small town. Grocery stores, car hire, photo developing, internet cafes, bottle shops, pharmacy, post office, beauty salon and a shopping centre/ supermarket to name some. There’s even a bus service. You might even want to join in the spirit of freedom and hire a ‘moke’ ( a small buggy type vehicle) and really see the Island!

The activities which may vary slightly from resort to resort, are certainly very plentiful, with snorkeling, scuba diving, reef trips, jet ski trips around the island, and many other watersports and fishing trips etc available, you’ll never wonder about what to do. Then there’s sky diving, scuba diving lessons, aquabikes, catamaran and yacht hire, jetskis and still more. The water here (as with all the islands) is sparkling and clear.

Getting there is very easy from Townsville and they even have a vehicular ferry, so you can even take the car.

Magnetic island truely does have something for eveyone and is a great launching pad to the outer reefs of our magnificent Great Barrier Reef.
