Winter recreation in Lake Geneva

The winter recreation below assures that you will have plenty to do during the winter season. From snowmobiling to skiing, you should always be able to find something fun to do.

Downhill Skiing
At Grand Geneva, you can experience their Downhill Ski Area which features 13 ski runs for both beginners and experts. They also offer snowboarding with a halfpipe as well as lessons for the unskilled. Oh, by the way, dress warm. I have a special knack for getting outrageously cold.

Cross Country Skiing
Personally, I fancy downhill skiing- it seems to be less work for some reason. However, if you prefer cross country skiing, you can find Rentals at the Aurora University Lake Geneva Campus (262-245-5531) and the Fontana Outdoor Sports Facility (262-275-2220).

Cross Country Ski Trails
If you need somewhere to bring those cross country skis that you’ve just rented, the best place to go would be Big Foot Beach State Park located on Hwy. H South in Lake Geneva. You can also call (262) 248-2528 if you have any questions.

Ice Fishing
If the idea of ice fishing gets your attention, the best place to get started would be Geneva Lake Bait and Tackle located 3/10 of a mile south of Hwy 50 on Hwy 67 in Williams Bay. Call (248) 245-6150 with any questions.

Ice Skating
There’s a few places that you can go skating during the winter, first, you can go skating directly on Lake Geneva. Simply go to the Library park on Wrigley Drive where they have a skating rink set up on the lake. You can also go to Jerry’s Marine at Interlaken Resort of off Hwy. 50 where you can get rentals. Call (262) 275-5222 for any questions.

I recommend getting your snowmobile rentals at Jerry’s Marine. For the record, there are snowmobile trails throughout Walworth County which connect with many of the local trails. Local snowmobile clubs perform the maintenance, marking, and grooming of the trails. For information on trails and conditions, call (262) 742-2664. To contact Jerry’s Marine, call (262) 275-5222.

Sleigh Rides
For sleigh rides, you can go to Grand Geneva Resort and Spa. If you really wanted to, you could cross country ski yourself over there (not recommended). Call (262) 248-8811 for more information.
